Flying in the lake airplane in Mauritius

Now I’ve already seen a lot of Mauritius and reported on different and various things. So, I was looking for a way to bring you closer to Mauritius from another perspective. Whether north, east, south or west, we’ve already learned a lot. Through my new found passion for diving, I could hopefully bring you to the underwater world a little closer. Therefore, the only option remained was the ”bird’s eye” perspective. Because of that, I will do a small flight over the north-western coast by seaplane, from which I will directly report, as soon as I have safely landed. Short...

Diving in Mauritius

It is probably known worldwide that Mauritius is an ideal destination for diving enthusiasts. In order to learn even more about this facet of the Island and report on, I threw myself into the depths of the Indian Ocean. Since I had no experience, the first dive gave me a little queasy feeling – equipment which I never used, the vastness of the sea and the ”unexplored” depths, creatures which I only saw in a zoo or aquarium and of course the steady ulterior motives, which I owe to the movie industry. Thank you Hollywood for the great white shark,...

Eureka House at Moka, Mauritius

Mauritius has a centuries old history, that is why I choose to visit the ‘Eureka Villa’ in Moka, which is only a few kilometers away from the capital city, Port Louis. Eureka is a colonial mansion built in 1830. During a walk through the house, you will be transported to another time. Since Eureka was not architecturally changed this time travel is very authentic and you can be found in the 19th Century again. In the rooms with antique furniture made from fine woods such as ebony or mahogany, decorated with the finest detailed to carvings, Chinese porcelain and many...

Trou aux Biches Beach, Mauritius

My current workplace is the beach of Trou aux Biches, only two villages away from Grand Baie and also very close to the beach of Mon Choisy. White sandy beach, turquoise water and the sunshine are my office today. Along the rambling beach, it is not hard to find a place in the sun, or shade. You only have to pay attention to the owners, because there are a lot of hotels located. For me this is exactly the opposite of Mon choisy. Trou aux Biches Beach is lined with hotel associated sunbeds and of course their guests, while in...

Ile des Deux Cocos, Mauritius

To reach my today’s destination, I have to traverse almost entirely Mauritius. My path leads me towards Mahebourg, close to the airport, at Plaisance. The morning traffic does not bother me, full of anticipation for my day. It goes to “Ile des deux cocos”, probably one of the most beautiful islands around Mauritius. “Ile des deux cocos” is located off the southeast coast and just next to “Blue Bay”, the largest Maritime Park and Marine Reserve Mauritius’. After initial difficulties to find the dock for the boat trip to “Ile des deux cocos”, the magnificence and grace can be seen...

Chamarel Cascade & Seven colored earth, Mauritius

Chamarel probably is one of the most famous places in the southwest of Mauritus. Far beyond the country’s borders people already heard of the seven colored earth, a highly frequented attraction and a unique phenomenon. The drive to Chamaral leads me again through the green landscape of the Black River Gorges National Park and already at the entrance of the Chamarel waterfall and the seven colored earth, you find a crow of interested people. To be able to admire this natural phenomenon, an entry fee is required, because the park is owned privately. An amazing picture emerges shortly after the...

Grand Bassin & Trou aux Cerfs, Mauritius

After my first experience and my first meeting with the fascinating underwater world of Mauritius, I go today a little more inland. My goal for today is the crater “Trou aux Cerfs” and then “Grand Bassin”, a Hindu temple with a unique history. Also today, I wish I would live in the south, because to pass by Port Louis in the morning hours is a true test of patience. Nevertheless, you get used to it and accordingly the plan will be adjusted. On the way to “Trou aux Cerfs” we cross Curepipe, the largest inland city. Generally, I enjoy this...

Black River Gorges National Park and Le Morne Brabant, Mauritius

My today’s travel leads me to the green heart of Mauritius. After recurrent congestion in Port Louis and two hours drive I reach the entrance of the Black River Gorges National Park, which is situated in the middle of the island. Black River Gorges is a green oasis, almost jungle-like. To learn another facet of the dream island Mauritius fills me with joy and fascination. I have never been on such a versatile island, in cultural sense as well as in the geographical sense. Dream beaches, volcanic rocks, mountains, deep blue sea, forests and waterfalls, all united here in the...

Péreybère Beach, Mauritius

Halloween a bit differently. All the clubs and bars in Grand Baie and the surrounding area last night were dark and decorated in the atmosphere of Halloween and people were celebrating till the break of day. Happy I am to be on the beach of Pereybere without all the spooky ghosts, monsters, and bloodthirsty party animals. Pereybere is the nearest village to Grand Baie, towards Cap Malheureux. A little piece of paradise, with a white sandy beach, the many shades of blue of the Indian Ocean and small back roads through volcanic stones, offer quieter and not so frequented bathing...

Grand Baie, La Croisette, Super U, Bazar, Beaches, Clubs and more of Mauritius

In the north of the paradise island Mauritius, nestled in the bay, lies Grand Baie, with a population of almost 12,000 people. As one of the most popular tourist regions, Grand Baie has a lot to offer. Next to a range of shops, restaurants, bars and beaches, also the cultural and religious charm are not lost here. Because of this broad range of activities, Grand Baie is a popular meeting place for locals and tourists, young and old, as well as pleasure seekers and party lovers. In Grand Baie countless accommodations are offered, in different categories, from private- to luxury...

Ile aux Cerfs , Mauritius

Located on the east coast of Mauritius, there is another popular tourist destination, the island ” Ile aux Cerfs “. After only a few minutes by motor boat you reach the small holiday paradise, characterized by filao trees, palm trees and a white sandy beach. Here one cannot talk about unaffected, since there is the possibility to choose between two restaurants and the Sands Bar. Also, all water sports, including parasailing, a tour by speed boat and a snorkeling course is offered. Furthermore, there is an 18- hole golf course located in the inner island. Already upon arrival at Ile...

Casela Bird Park , Mauritius

Dream beaches, diverse marine life and also the inner island of Mauritius has a lot to offer. Even some parks attract daily visitors. So today I went to Casela Bird Park near Flic & Flac and Tamarin, in the southwest of Mauritius. After a one-hour drive from Grand Bay, we reach the Casela Park. In addition to quad biking, ziplining, tilapia fishing, a photo safari and other activities, the park offers something very appealing to me: Direct contact with lions and cheetahs! Also, an approximately one-hour walk with lions is offered here. Arrived at the Park, we first explored the...

Tamarin Falls Hiking Trips, Mauritius

My Today’s excursion leads me to the Tamarin Falls in the southwest of Mauritius. The Tamarin Falls are amongst several other waterfalls, probably the most beautiful. To experience the whole fascination and beauty, it is recommended not only to look from the viewpoint on the nature, but to hike the 7 basins with sturdy shoes. But one should not do this without a local guide since the Tamarin Falls are not easily access. We start in Le Petrin, situated in Tamarin. On a still quite passable trail, the trail leads us through the woods to the base of the waterfalls....

Dolphin Swim & Ile aux Benitiers, Mauritius

The weekend was very nice and now I’m on my way to Black River. Black River is located on the west coast of Mauritius. My plan of today includes swimming with dolphins and visiting the island “Ile aux Benitiers”. We start with a speedboat and we are made familiar with the code of conduct for swimming with dolphins. After a few minutes on the boat the first passengers stand up and start pointing with their fingers and an astonished face towards the horizon. A large group of dolphins “Spinner” can be seen and it only takes a few more minutes until...

Horseback ride in Le Morne, Mauritius

My first trip to the south. Le Morne is located in the southwestern corner of Mauritius and is certainly worth a visit. Even the car ride there offered me incredible impressions. The south is much windier. The sight of the high waves is truly engaging, and you really want to unpack the surfboard and jump into the water. But my current plan is to explore the mountains and the beach of Le Morne by horse. Arrived at the horse stables, the saddled horses were already awaiting us and after a short introduction we were able to start right away. The...

Ilôt Gabriel catamaran trip, Mauritius

What a work day! Today I made a catamaran trip to the nearby Island “Ilôt Gabriel”. A recommended day trip, which starts in the port of Grand Baie. The Port of Grand Baie is quite easy to find and the access to the port is just located by the Sunset Boulevard. The trip by catamaran takes about an hour. An hour that invites you to linger and relax. Relaxing on the nets of the catamaran or preferably a drink with some shade inside? This is probably the most difficult question to face at this moment. As usual, the Indian Ocean...
