Ilôt Gabriel catamaran trip, Mauritius

What a work day! Today I made a catamaran trip to the nearby Island “Ilôt Gabriel”. A recommended day trip, which starts in the port of Grand Baie. The Port of Grand Baie is quite easy to find and the access to the port is just located by the Sunset Boulevard. The trip by catamaran takes about an hour. An hour that invites you to linger and relax. Relaxing on the nets of the catamaran or preferably a drink with some shade inside? This is probably the most difficult question to face at this moment. As usual, the Indian Ocean...

Underwater Sea Walk, Grand Baie, Mauritius

Mauritius is also known as a diver’s paradise. So we will explore the multifaceted underwater world. Since I never dived before, I decided to try an ”Underwater Sea Walk”. Until now, this activity was completely new to me and sounded very interesting. Arrived at the diving school, they introduced me to the world of diving language, so I can communicate with my attendants under water. Then we finally could get started. After approximately a 10 minute ride by speedboat, we reached another boat with the necessary equipment. I didn’t need more than a towel and my bikini. The first steps...

Goodlands & Grand Gaube, Mauritius

Today I visited Goodlands, the largest and most economically important city of the north. Since left-hand traffic prevails in Mauritius, I was glad that a friend accompanied me, who also took over the driving. Looking for the right way to Goodlands, we drove through the seemingly endless expanses of sugar cane fields. It was certainly our excellent sense of direction, because we got lost not once. Maybe it rather was the knowledge of my friend about the country. As we could see the sign of Goodlands, I was really excited what would await me. We crossed the largest city of...

Mon Choisy Public Beach, Mauritius

Today, I am allowed to spend another day in Paradise. Actually on my to-do-list for today, was to visit the beach of Pereybere, but my friends invited me for a spontaneous BBQ at the beach of Mon Choisy. After a 3 hour quick shopping tour to buy the necessary things, I am now sitting on the beach of Mon Choisy. My friends prepare the BBQ, which is why I am able to do my work and keep you up to date. The beach of Mon Choisy is a sought-after place. No wonder! Crystal clear water and a seemingly never-ending sandy...

Cap Malheureux, Mauritius

Awakened by the early morning sun, I went to the north of Mauritius, today. The visit of “Cap Malheureux” should be done by every Mauritian visit. Given the incredible view of the turquoise ocean and the heavenly peace, one imagines the question of of how the small fishing village got his name. The translation of the French “malheureux” ranges from “unhappy”, “sad” to “miserable”. Mauritius is home to very familiar and tolerant people who are mostly friendly and helpful. So I took the chance to let me clear up by a local resident: Near ”Cap Malheureux” the British conquered the...

La Hacienda, Grand Port, Mauritius

This time am writing right live one could say from the location off my mobile Samsung SIII seated around the common pool on a comfortable sun lounger at La Hacienda located in the south east of Mauritius at Lion Mountain facing the ocean. I would usually tend to write after the holiday when recalling my impressions in office out of my memory. I’ve decided that this time I’m going to try reporting a bit differently. Simply whenever I come across an idea or impression I’ll note it down on the instant while the thoughts or the captured moment is still...

A wonderful Catamaran Tour to Île aux Cerfs

Last weekend we had a fantastic catamaran tour to Ile aux Cerfs. We were already a group of 12 people and we shared a boat with others. The other people were all very nice and our boat was a pirate boat. The complete workforce were pirates, they were all dressed up like real pirates, wearing a white blouse, an eye-patch and a bandana. Before we got onto the boat, all the guys were drawn a beard on their faces, we also got pirate bandanas and a sword made out of carton. The ship was even decorated with pirate flags, we...

Six month in Mauritius – my final report

My name is Madeline and I have worked in Mauritius for 6 months. I have laughed, loved, lived and enjoyed myself during that time; sometimes I had to deal with a very conservative culture but in short: I fell head over heels in love with this island. I arrived in August 2012. When it got too warm wearing leggings I had to switch to shorts. But sandals and flip flops were standard from the first moment. Sometimes, it rained but I soon learnt that that is a good thing in Mauritius. From October, it slowly but surely got hotter. Sunshine...

Pereybere – the most beautiful place in Mauritius

For me, Pereybere offers everything you want in paradise. Located in the north, it is a place which never becomes boring – is where island life pulsates. It’s not just tourists who flock in their masses to places like Pereybere, Grand Baie and Trou aux Biches; Mauritians also like to visit, day and night. The bus services are very good and there are many taxi drivers around who charge the same price as the buses. From one side you can get to Cap Malheureux and from the other side you can reach Grand Baie. Like everywhere else on the island,...

Mauritius villa holiday

If you think about where to stay on your holiday, the first thought that probably comes to mind is a hotel. But there are also holiday homes or ‘a holiday on a farm’. But people seldom think of a villa. However, this type of accommodation is always in demand. The annoying thing about hotels is that you pay per person. If you have a family of 4 – 5 people then this can be very expensive. In villas you pay per villa instead of per person. If you divide the cost of the villa among the number of people, if...

Mauritius as an experiential learning destination

Communication and cooperation skills need to be strengthened and initiative and responsibility are key; this is what experiential learning is all about. This different way to acquire knowledge is evidenced by many theories from famous educators such as John Dewey and Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Scouts actually practice experiential learning. They are surrounded by nature and learn to find their way without resorting to the use of large aids. Experiential learning largely rejects academic knowledge such as classroom teaching and lectures in school. Humans are not taught but they learn through their own individual experiences. Experiential learning is an alternative to existing educational...

Beach Apartment “Plage Bleue”, Trou aux Biches, Mauritius

My colleague, Natasha and I were really looking forward to test the beach apartment because the pictures was just gorgeous and inviting. Plage Bleue is situated in Trou aux Biches, a small, quiet fishing village in the northwest of Mauritius. This village spreads out along the coast and boasts a long sandy beach, where there are mainly holiday residences. Apartment testing : 08/03/13 – 09/03/13 On the 8th of March, about noon, we drove to the apartment complex in Trou aux Biches. The weather did not look too promising that day, but it did not stop us from having a...

On Saturday night, March 16, I went to the concert with a few friends. It was to celebrate the 45th anniversary of independence and the 21st anniversary of the Republic of Mauritius. The celebration was held in the Anjalay Coopen Stadium in Mapou from 18.00-06.00 in the morning and was hosted by by Ministry of Art and Culture of Mauritius with top international artists from South Africa, Madagascar, Dubai, India, La Réunion, U.K., Zimbabwe and many famous local artists.
