Hi Ken,
how is it going upthere in London ? Is the recession making itself felt where you are ? Maybe not necessarily your sector but on a whole ?
I sent you a personal message concerning accomodations in flic en flic. Let me know if you are having problems retrieving the message.
By the way, as a means of transportation to work you can also consider the busses, which are a very cheap means of transportation and you can get nearly everywhere with them. For 1 trip you'll pay often less than a Euro. So it could be that to get to work and back home by bus you would be spending around 2 - 3 Euros a day.
The Bus are ofcourse not exactly the same as in Europe, yet the Express route buses are comfortable, big, more spacious and with air con. The normal lines are different, you have those big busses with lots of seats and people sit next to each other. Its also a nice way to get to know mauritius from another perspective. People are usually friendly in busses. But for a seat that is meant for 2 people, and a seat that is meant for 3 people, its usually in europe that such a seat would be seated by 1 person and the other by 2. But here whatever size and luggage a person has, the persons will squeeze in and make it fit that there will be always 2 on the left bench, and 3 on the right one.

Since the buses are high off the ground level, you'll have a nice view. An option to consider.
Also, many companies have their own transportation service, maybe your company does and they might pick you up everyday.
c u, dietmar, greetings from the north of mauritius.
