Best time to come

Hi!

I am thinking about comming to Mauritious for a month next year in August. I was told however that the best time to go is November - January. Could you tell me when the best time would be?

i moved your post to the English section of the mauritius forum.

definitely, when one takes into account all the planning, prices and long travel journey, for sure one also wants to have the best holiday possible, and for this to happen the weather should be at its best.

So, when is the best time to come ? The best way to answer this would be first to find out, what kind of weather and temperature you prefer ?
For Mauritius is a spot you can visit all the year round...

You also have climate variations depending on the regions.
We stay in the north, in Grand Bay, its very hot, its sometimes better to stay outside than in the house because the house heats up a lot from the sun even though its painted in white.

My own experience has shown, that a short swim bath in the mornings just before noon really keeps you fresh the whole day.

So, awaiting your response, I will then elaborate on the weather issue.
August is the winter time here, its a bit colder and gets darker more early.
Temperatures vary in the 20 degrees celcius scale. But even in winter there have been hot days with 30°C.

Well, I'd like to go to the south, but to a time where I'd be able to enjoy the last warm days and witness the transition from summer to 'fall'. Coming from Latin America I know that the winter can be warm also, and I would be happy to take the risk. However I do not want to come willingly during the hotest season of the year.

in the south you also have a very hot and dry climate. The south is less crowded, and has more nature. Some spots have really nice beaches, others are beauties of nature where one cannot swim because of rocks and corals. The south his its own flair and atmosphere.

In the middle of the island you have the high plateaus, in these regions its colder. Thats where also most of the cities are. Yesterday I was there with some friends, and it felt like I would need to put on a light pullover. Maybe because we are more used to the heat here in the north.

I am not so much the south expert, but love it there. The north is more my specialty cause thats where I reside to.

Then I would suggest the month of May, thats the best one!

Coming from Latin America I know that the winter can be warm also, and I would be happy to take the risk.

No risk no fun! ...but our winters are not ice cold, on the high plateaus it does get colder and wouldn't be a summer experience, but on the coastal regions, it will be still warm.

Now, when you come, please take into consideration that Mauritius is visited by cyclones. Thus, when I cyclones comes, there will be a few days of bad weather, and if the cyclone hits, then you'll have to stay home quite a while. So, I always suggest to people, that they should come for at least 2 weeks, and best is 3!

But I am sure most of the weather conditions and way of life you'll see here, might sometimes look familiar, or with certain similarities to your continent, thus, maybe making you feel quite quickly home and very welcome!

The best time to visit is during the so-called winter, from July to September, when the rains cease and the humidity is bearable. Alternatively, the waters are at their clearest from December to March, so if you're into diving this would be the best time for you.

Yes, during this time, its definitely not to hot. But I find the sea water quite cold
but thats more the impression of a local here, in summer, the sea water in Denmark for example is way colder, really icy.

For the ones who like it really hot and humid, just like the hot tropics are, i would suggest likewise as you mentioned:

from December to March

Do you happen to know of some good diving spots around the island ?
