Default Familyholiday in Mauritius

Hello everybody!

For next year my wife and I are planning a family trip to Mauritius. We have two kids, 8 and 14 years old.

Would you advise to stay in a hotel or are there also some nice private apartments or beach villas?

Which activities can you do with your kids on the island? Which places are of special interest to visit?

Thank you for all your advice!
Tom & family

Smile family holiday

hi Tom
I would definately encourage you to stay in a bungalow or villa
reasons : more privacy
in my opinion the money you spend reaches far more mauritians
e.g. rentals, restaurants, supermarkets or small boutiks etc.
kind regards
Bernhard

Hi Tom!

Like Bernhard I would advise you to look for a smaller, more private accommodation than the big hotels. You just get a better insight view of the country and that's what travelling surely is all about !
There are many nice spaces to stay, some directly on the beach, some in the country.

Mauritius is great for kids. They surely will have a fun time on the beach. The water is usually calm and shallow, the sand white and golden. Nothing you got to worry about

There are also a lot of different excursions you can do with your family. Visit the nature park Casela or the crocodile park, go to the waterpark in Belle Mare, take a trip on a glass bottom boat or visit the aquarium in Pointe aux Pimentes. Go hiking in the national park, go snorkeling or do bicycle rides along the coastline.

You will love it
All the best
Richard

Sometimes also when you stay in an accomodation offered by the locals, you often get to know some very nice and friendly owners where you end up building up some form of friendship, ofcourse for others also some great friendship links have been made, and this binds the first time visitor often to come back again and again, thus adopting Mauritius as their new homeland, or favorite destination. Many come for the first time to Mauritius to see some nice beaches, have a relaxing time but don't expect to get to know some nice people to, and when they usually come back again, its because of the people and its the people that make the difference and the country a nice place to stay. I mean, Mauritius is not the only country in the world with beaches and sea. You get this close to europe which you can go to with cheaper air fares and cheaper accomodations. So, there must be a particular special reason why nearly 1 Million people per year come to Mauritius - its not only because of 5 Stars hotels, villas at the beach and excellent service. Its more, well we have to admit also that Mauritius has established itself internationally as a make, so when people think of going to Mauritius its also like when someone buys himself a special expensive make... But, in addition to this I want to point out, is that, people who do spend and come for an individual organised holliday at a locals place, usually really enjoy it, and also enjoy it getting to know the owners and thats one of those reasons why many often come back, and get to be a habitué of the house. This year was not a very good year for many in the tourism industry, but many survived because they had their habitués who still come, even though there is a recession. In life there are things that are worth more than just money, and thats for example your friends, its always great to be able to see your friends, family and the ones you love. And for some this has taken place in Mauritius, and they will come, whatever the price, whatever it takes
