Question travelling solo to mauritius (surfing)

Howedy partners.* Very excited to say that im stopping into the Mauritius on the way home to OZ in late April. I have been searching the net for places to stay but it seems the island is full of luxury resorts. I am travelling alone and was wondering if anyone could advise myself on the best way to see this island bearing in mind all i want to do is surf. Is it the type of place i can hire a car and find reasonable places to stay on any given day or would it be best to book my whole trip. Finding it hard to find a hotel suitable for a solo traveller as seems to cater mostly for familys and honeymooners. Anybodys input would be muchly appreciated. Cheers guys and girls.

Hello lukeyvee,

welcome to the forums. Have you found something by now ? Yes, you can drive around with a car rental, but not necessarily find easily something where you can only stay for a night. Many owners prefer to rent atleast for a few nights minimum.

So, since you want to surf you might want to stay at surf spots that are not so far from where you stay. One popular surf spot is Tamarin in the south west of mauritius, or have you already checked out online for some surf spots in mauritius ? I'm not the surf pro.

There are some cheap bed and breakfast that I can advise you of and that we will soon be promoting on our website at www.isla-mauricia.com
But I think you will definitely need a car to get around. The cheap places are generally not close to the beach, that is a few kilometres away. Anything close to beautiful class A beaches are generelly more expensive.

Let me know how you are progressing and I would be interested to hear once you were here how it went with the surfing.
