Mauritius Hotels

The name Mauritius conjurers up images of picture-perfect stretches of white, sandy beach, gently lapped by the warm and clear waters of a turquoise lagoon, bordered by palm trees and saturated in sunshine. Coconuts, pineapples, service and long, cool, refreshing tropical cocktails are also all common items with which to furnish the imagination. These things, however, do not need to remain solely in the mind, while the body is stuck in an office somewhere, cold, bored and full of innumerable cups of coffee. With the enormous variety of hotels in Mauritius, there is sure to be one to suit any type of tastes or budgets.

Mauritius Holidays

Why choose Mauritius as a holiday destination? What is so appealing about this small island in the middle of the Indian Ocean that tourists are willing to spend hours in a cramped aeroplane just to have a short holiday there? The answers are numerous and would certainly differ from person to person but below are just a few of the most common reasons to choose Mauritius for your holidays.

Mauritius Beach Villas

For a luxurious and private holiday on a warm, tropical island, what could be a better choice of accommodation than a beach villa in Mauritius? Small and romantic, large and luxurious, self-catering or with a private staff including chef, butler and maid, the holiday villas in Mauritius offer a unique form of accommodation, perfect for large families or groups of friends. Built on the tropical island of Mauritius, which is situated in the Indian Ocean east of Madagascar, these villas offer unsurpassed comfort and atmosphere with breathtaking views of the coral lagoon.

Domaine de Bel Ombre - Villas, Hotels & Golf Resort

Situated on the south coast of Mauritius, Le Domaine de Bel Ombre lies nestled between a breathtaking lagoon and the striking, volcanic mountains of the island. With several deluxe resorts, two outstanding hotels – the Heritage Awali and Heritage Le Telfair Golf and Spa – a championship eighteen-hole golf course with a par three nine-hole course, a rambling 3500 acre nature reserve and a nineteenth century château, Le Domaine leaves little to be desired.

Coffee, vanilla and honeybees – A Creole cottage in Mauritius

Le Coteau Fleurie is a very special address for friends of nature in Mauritius. Geneviève Fleurié enjoys taking her guests on a tour of the plantation and the garden and will explain the cultivation and procession of the plants. As Geneviève takes great care of her garden and plantation, she takes care of her guests with the same love and diligence.

The Mauritius paradise beach Pointe d’Esny

In Pointe d’Esny, located in the south east coast of Mauritius, you’ll find the beach of your dreams! Relax on the white sandy beach and take a dip in the turquoise water of the Indian Ocean. As there are mainly private residences and villas on the beach you will be able to find tranquility and recreation there. The small paradise has to be shared with only a few other guests.

Mauritius Honeymoons

To me, nothing seemed quite so passé as planning a honeymoon in Mauritius.  When I first visited the island, romance was the last thing on my mind and I was determined to cut through the gloss of the travel brochures and find the ‘real’ Mauritius which I was sure existed beyond the impossibly photogenic sunsets and beaches.  Alas, as Burns so neatly put it, the best laid plans of mice and men...

Discover the inner beauty of Mauritius!

Take a break in the middle of the green forests, where tranquility is only disturbed by the songs of the birds. Pass your holidays in a lodge and get to know the still unknown side of Mauritius. Mauritius offers a large variety of natural beauties that only wait to be discovered and the lodges are the perfect starting point for your adventure in the heartland of Mauritius.

Mauritius Airport

Not all beaches in Mauritius require a long drive from the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport.  Mere minutes away are the stunning white sand beaches of Blue Bay and Pointe D’Esny in the beautiful district of Plaisance.  With a variety of hotels and guest houses to choose from, almost no need for airport transfers and some of the best snorkelling in the country, these are dream locations for those on a short stop over in Mauritius and are ideal places to unwind and recover from the jet-lag of a long flight.

Nico Kux – Surfing, Kitesurfing and Diving in Mauritius

Nico Kux calls himself “waterman since 1960” and was born and raised in Mauritius. He grew up in the family’s hotel right on the beach and was always fascinated by the ocean, the waves and the wind. When he was 17 years old he left Mauritius for South Africa where he started diving...

Mauritius Golf

Along with tourism and the export of sugar cane, golf has become one of the top sources of income for Mauritius.  For such a small island there are an astonishingly high number of golf courses dotted all over the island, ranging from the Mashie course at the Shandrani Hotel in the south east of the island to the Héritage Golf and Spa Resort in Bel Ombre.  But without a doubt, three of the most well known and enjoyable courses are the Ile Aux Cerfs course, the Anahita Golf course and the Tamarina Golf course, all of which are eighteen holes.

La Villa Perle d’Azur: A small testimony of Mauritian history and an insight view on modern arts

La Villa Perle d’Azur is not only a luxurious beach villa and the destination for your dream holidays in Mauritius. Meet the owners Jean-Claude and Barbara Desvaux de Marigny and get a small insight to Mauritian history and fine arts.

Rodrigues

Rodrigues is a small island of volcanic origin and the smallest island of the Mascarene islands situated 560 km east from the north western coast of Mauritius. It is a dependency of Mauritius and its capital town is Port Mathurin.

La Preneuse Beach

Tucked away on the west coast of Mauritius, away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist capital, Grand Baie, is the white sand gem known as La Preneuse beach.  The warm, clear blue water, the coral reef and the unforgettable sight of Le Morne Brabant, the world heritage sight and monument to slavery, rising majestically out of the sea, make this beach one of the most visually spectacular on the island.

Mauritius - Demystifying the Myth of the South East Coast

In popularly held opinion, the south east coast of Mauritius is the ostracised sibling. Holiday makers and tourists flock joyfully to the sun-washed beaches and warm lagoon waters of the north, west and south of the island but shun the east. This bias, however, proves to be totally unfounded and this article could equally well be entitled Demistifying the Mists of the South East Coast.

Eco-Tourism-Adventures in Mauritius

An unforgettable view and wonderful relaxation are not the only benefits of treating yourself to a holiday at the Lodge Andréa. There are a variety of great activities for nature lovers, hikers and mountain bikers of all ages.
Walk along the banks of the Riviere des Anguilles. Pay a visit to the nearby Vanille Nature Park, a natural reserve which is inhabited by crocodiles, monkeys, and giant turtles. Cross the sugar cane fields which surround the lodge and you will the “Rochesterfall” waterfall. The waterfall is a spectacular sight: As lava cooled off various rock formations evolved on which the water flows cascade-like into the basin. The basin is great for a refreshing bath. Mauritian youth also use the fall to practice their breathtaking dives.

Mauritius Wellness

Over the years, wellness has become increasingly popular world-wide and Mauritian hotels have not been slow in embracing a more holistic approach.  Many hotels now have their own wellness centres with a variety of therapies such as massage, nutrition advice and spa treatments.  Even the hotels that do not have their own spas or wellness centres usually offer the treatments on request.

Easter Holidays Mauritius

Although this is not traditionally a period of grand celebration and festivities, Easter is generally a fantastic time to visit Mauritius. As it does not follow the civil calendar, the date of Easter is not fixed: it is the first Sunday after the Paschal Full Moon, following the vernal equinox of the northern hemisphere, and generally falls between the twenty-second of March and the twenty-fifth of April. In these two months, the humidity on the island drops, cyclones become a thing of the past and the sun shines brighter than ever.

Summer Holidays Mauritius

The European summer holidays coincide with the winter and spring months in Mauritius. Although this sounds like a chilly reception awaits, nothing could be further from the truth. The average temperature during the winter is 24ºC, with the sea temperature dropping from the summer high of 29°C to about 20°C. Winter also heralds a welcome drop in humidity and although there can be moderate winds buffeting the east coast, compared to the Mediterranean they are negligible.

School Holidays Mauritius

Mauritius, that small, beautiful island in the Indian Ocean, is the perfect location for a family holiday. With the safe and gentle waters of the lagoon and the fine, white sandy beaches, what could be safer for children? The obvious attraction of the sea, however, is not the only reason to visit the island of Mauritius with children. The suitability of the weather during the long, European summer holidays, the hospitality of the people and the huge number of different activities available make this one of the most perfect destinations in the world.

Christmas Holidays Mauritius

If you’re dreaming of a white Christmas but don’t much fancy the inevitable freezing temperatures which are inseparable from a snowy landscape, why not try the dazzling white sand beaches of Mauritius instead? Sunshine, sand and the cool clear waters of the encircling lagoon will make your festive season one to remember.

New Year’s Eve Mauritius

Traditional New Year celebrations in Mauritius start on New Year’s Eve, the thirty-first of December and, in as much, echo traditional celebrations of the Gregorian calendar the world over. If, when you think of Mauritius, you generally imagine an exotic destination, balmy summer evenings, bright, vibrant colours and music which enters your very soul and, if this is how you imagine the New Year’s celebrations in Mauritius, you are not far wrong.
