Activities

In Chamarel you can get to know the authentic Mauritian countrylife. Geneviève will enjoy giving you a tour of her garden and plantation during which she will teach you about the cultivation and processing of her plants. As Chamarel is a rather quiet village and the cottage is situated on top of a small hill it is the perfect place to relax far away from the noise and stress of the big cities.

Of course one shouldn’t miss out to visit the famous natural spectacle at Chamarel, the couloured earth. When the visitor enters the park he will first enjoy a fantastic view on the waterfall Cascade Chamarel which flows over 127m. In the park one can then enjoy the magnificent play of colours of the earth. On a small hill the earth shows itself in colours ranging from red, yellow and brown to orange, lilac and blue. This phenomenon can be best seen in sunlight. Scientists explain this play of colour with the erosion of the volcanic earth.

Many other excursions can be done in the region. Go on a ride along the spectacular southern coast of the island and admire the cliffs and the untamed power of the Indian Ocean. You can also quickly reach Grand Bassin, the holy lake of the Hindus in Mauritius, where you can visit numerous temples and statues of gods.

Go on an excursion to the Black River Gorges National Park. Here you can go on a hike or do a mountain bike tour and admire the untouched flora and fauna.

Beautiful beaches await you on the southwestern coast. After a drive of app. 15 minutes you reach the long sandy beach of Le Morne or within 20 minutes you can go to the popular beach of Tamarin. This region is also a paradise for surfers and kitesurfers.
