On top of a hill in the small village Chamarel, with an amazing view on the surrounding plantations and mountains, you find the guesthouse Le Coteau Fleurie. The village Chamarel still is rather authentic. The population mainly lives of agriculture. Thus you will find a lot of sugarcane fields and pineapple plantations surrounding the village. In the village you have a great choice of restaurants and you find some smaller shopping possibilities.
Chamarel is famous for an amazing natural spectacle; here you find the couloured earth. When the visitor enters the park he will first enjoy a fantastic view on the waterfall Cascade Chamarel which flows over 127m. In the park one can then enjoy the magnificent play of colours of the earth. On a small hill the earth shows itself in colours ranging from red, yellow and brown to orange, lilac and blue. This phenomenon can be best seen in sunlight. Scientists explain this play of colour with the erosion of the volcanic earth.
Chamarel is situated in the southwest of Mauritius. Without a doubt the region is the most authentic of the island. Thus you can admire the untouched flora and fauna in the National Park Black River Gorges, not far from the cottage. The southern coast offers spectacular cliffs where you can marvel at the untamed power of the Indian Ocean. On the southwestern coast you find several beautiful beaches, such as Le Morne and Tamarin.
