In the midst by tropical vegetation, exotic flowers, and green sugar cane fields, the surrounding area offers itself most wonderfully for hiking and bicycle tours. You can also visit the adjacent 'Ferney Valley Nature Reserve'' or the nature reserve of ''Ile aux Aigrettes''. If you are interested in history pay a visit to the ruins of a Dutch fort close by or visit the Museum of History or the National Museum in Mahebourg.
Mahebourg itself is beautiful little seaport, offering everything you desire. You will find various restaurants, some of which will give you the chance to try local cuisine. A shopping tour of the local clothing and vegetable market is also well-recommended.
''La Hacienda'' is the ideal starting point for excursions to the rest of Mauritius. Pay a visit to the crocodile park ''Vanille Nature'' in Riviere des Anguilles, go on a ride along the spectacular southern coast of the island, or have an outing to one of the gorgeous beaches in the area, such as ''Riambel'' or ''Le Morne''.
