Blue Bay offers numerous aquatic sports in the lagoon. The fine golden sand is the perfect spot to relax and read a good book. Local boatmen offer different aquatic sports. The lagoon is surrounded by a coral reef and was declared a marine park in 1997. The Blue Bay Marine Park is a paradise for snorkelers and divers. There have been more than 50 species of corals and a great variety of tropical fish identified here.
The city of Mahébourg offers a greater choice of restaurants and shops. From the beach you can take a bus to go to the city. The journey takes app. 10 min. Mahébourg is a modern and at the same time historic town. The visitor can admire the neo-Gothic cathedral Notre Dame d’Anges. The most popular sightseeing spot is the Naval Museum. Here you can admire the ship bell of Saint Géran, maps of the 16th century, model ships, swords, pistols and canons.
In the South of the island you can visit numerous tourist attractions. For example, you can visit La Vanille Crocodile Park, where you can take a walk in the jungle and take a look at monkeys, giant tortoises and, of course, crocodiles. You can also go on a ride along the southern coastline which is very impressing. Here you will encounter wild cliffs and the untamed power of the Indian Ocean. One shouldn’t miss out a visit of Black River Gorges National Park, where you can see the indigenous Mauritian fauna and some beautiful waterfalls.
