Eco-Tourism-Adventures in Mauritius
The name “Mauritius” immediately conjures up various images: fine sandy beaches, turquoise blue water, the cool shade of palm trees. As Mark Twain once observed: “Mauritius was created first. And then paradise. But this paradise was only a copy of Mauritius.” His statement has influenced the way most people view the island.
What would this paradise be like without the lush green of the trees? Without the amazing colours of its flowers? Without its bizarre mountain formations and woody landscapes?
Here in the south you can still find these hidden treasures. In this undisputedly most authentic region of the island the native flora and fauna has been preserved the best.
The south is far from the common touristic towns of the rest of the island. It is marked by tropical forests, hills, mountains, rivers and waterfalls. You will find wonderful rest and relaxation here.
The Lodge Andréa is located on a cliff high above the ocean, close to the village of Riviere des Anguilles. There are 10 lodges set in the midst of a garden with palm trees. Each lodge provides and incredible view of the wild, untamed Indian Ocean with its waves breaking at the bottom of the cliffs. A spectacular view which you will never forget.
An unforgettable view and wonderful relaxation are not the only benefits of treating yourself to a holiday at the Lodge Andréa. There are a variety of great activities for nature lovers, hikers and mountain bikers of all ages.
Walk along the banks of the Riviere des Anguilles. Pay a visit to the nearby Vanille Nature Park, a natural reserve which is inhabited by crocodiles, monkeys, and giant turtles. Cross the sugar cane fields which surround the lodge and you will the “Rochesterfall” waterfall. The waterfall is a spectacular sight: As lava cooled off various rock formations evolved on which the water flows cascade-like into the basin. The basin is great for a refreshing bath. Mauritian youth also use the fall to practice their breathtaking dives.
In addition to these and other activities, the Lodge Andréa offers guests a number of exploration- and adventure trips free of charge.
There are guided hiking tours through the private deer park or through the Combo National park (with the Exil waterfall as the final destination). If you come at the right time you will be able to see how sugar is produced in the nearby sugar factory. Or you can simply explore the surrounding area on a mountain bike-ride.
Another cost-free hiking tour leads to the Gris-Gris beach. Due to the strong current and the surf breaking on the high cliffs swimming at the Gris-Gris beach would be perilous. Once you've reached the beach you won't feel a need for swimming anyway: The breathtaking view of the open ocean and the high waves will make you feel thrilled. Just stand back and watch the scene as the fresh ocean wind blows in your face.
The close surroundings of the Lodge Andréa offer many more activities with wonderful views and breathtaking landscapes.
Treat yourself to a holiday in Mauritius that offers you more than just beaches and the ocean. Allow yourself to be enchanted by the unrivalled nature. Go on a journey of adventure and exploration as discover a different side of Mauritius. You will love it!
